Uranus, Mars, North Node conjunct in Taurus 8/1/2022
It is often said “history repeats itself”, and while this may be true in some sense, in reality nothing ever occurs in exactly the same way. But can we look at past cycles in order to learn lessons? I believe so, and astrology can be a useful tool for such endeavors. But we have to have the desire to change, look inward for solutions, and have the willpower to grow.
Enter the The Lunar Nodes—astronomical points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Earth’s path around the Sun. These are spiritual or even karmic points representing knowledge of past and future. Do we grow by expanding our consciousness or remain in self-destructive patterns? In astrology, our North Node reveals the theme of our Soul’s desire for evolution, which provides insight as to “why we are here”.
So, what happens when our collective destiny meets up with unpredictability and action—in the steady, slow-moving, materially and financially oriented earth sign of Taurus? Well, we are about to find out on August 1, 2022, as these powerful but somewhat unsettling energies of the North Node, Uranus and Mars all meet up in Taurus at 18 degrees. This “meet-up” in a very tight conjunction, indicate energies which are blending, melding or overlapping with one another. Some astrologers even call this a combustion!
Uranus represents erratic, unstable, unpredictable movements and is known as The Rebel of the Solar System. Uranus isn’t trying to make us uncomfortable, but we can’t move forward into new and uncharted territory if we remain stuck in our old ways. Uranus is also associated with electricity and lightening, thus Uranus transits are known for events which “come out of left field”, or perhaps are even shocking.
Uranus entered Taurus in 2018 and will remain there until 2025. Its 84 year orbit allows us to understand that for many of us, we have not experienced this cycle previously. When we look back, the last Uranus transit of Taurus occurred between 1934 and 1941. Even if we were not alive during this time, we all remember our history and are well aware of it being one of the darkest periods in our human history. As a matter of fact, World War II began on September 1, 1939—during Uranus in Taurus!
Along comes Mars to join Uranus on this journey in the present day. Now we add action, drive, and initiative, providing us the necessary stamina to pursue our goals. Mars and Uranus conjunct indicate that collectively, we have the willpower and pioneering spirit to make the necessary changes, which will propel us forward. This is a future oriented conjunction and these two planets are not about to look in the rear view mirror. The only catch is that they are transiting Taurus.
This dynamic meeting wouldn’t be as fateful, had the North Node not be involved. But it is, so our story continues to unfold in an unpredictable fashion.
Here, the journey is on a collective level as the North Node transits Taurus. At the same time, the South Node is transiting Scorpio creating an opposition of energies. Whereas the North Node indicates our Soul’s yearning for growth, the South Node reminds us of our past. While it is a place of familiarity, it can hold us back at times, as its our comfort zone of experience and memories. I had written previously about the Taurus North Node and Scorpio South Node and it describes in detail the themes we are currently experiencing.
I have to admit that when I first sat down to write about this significant transit, I was a bit concerned as I thought there might be a disruptive, possibly war like situation occurring. But as I looked at the previous transit of Uranus in Taurus with the start of World War II, the most glaring point that stood out was Saturn retrograde at 1 degree conjunct the South Node in Taurus at 0 degrees. This was karmic, unfinished business with the South Node in Taurus and Saturn’s presence acting as the task master to ensure all work was completed. It was a horrendous time for humanity but one which indicated ties to the past.
Fortunately, this time around, the Nodes suggest the opposite. Perhaps this is an opportunity to create a new Earth (Taurus), respecting our resources, and being mindful of what we have been given—learning to spend what we earn and not live beyond our means.
Utilizing Uranus’ innovative and at times unconventional approach, coupled with Mars’ drive and initiative to get the job done, this can be a time of real progress. Will it be easy? No, it never is. But we are helped here, and in some ways, whatever unpredictability or instability occurs, we should welcome it.
Our old ways are no longer working and we need new solutions to existing problems. The conjunction of the North Node, Uranus, and Mars in Taurus on August 1, 2022, may usher in the beginning of a new chapter for humanity. As with any great novel, one has to read all of the chapters to finish the story. We are now starting a new chapter and I’m looking forward to what will unfold. Our story is still being written, as humanity is the author of this fascinating drama. I can’t tell you how it ends, but I promise you will not be bored.
